Learning Management System
A learning management system (LMS) is a web-based system used by managers, administrators, instructors and learners to schedule, register, bill and track learners through courses and other learning events. It lets learners find and register for courses. launch online courses, monitor their competencies and gauge their progress through a course or programme of learning. It helps administrators manage training programmes and compile statistics and reports (W. Horton and K. Horton, 2003, p.169).
Learning Content Management System
A learning content management system (LCMS) maintains items of content in a central repository from which instructional designers can organise, assemble, approve and deliver courses and other learning objects. An LCMS lets authors create, store and refine learning objects or other units of content. It helps learner locate and take just the learning they need at the moment.
(W. Horton and K. Horton, 2003, p.189).
