The Bachelor of Education or B.Ed (TESL) is a 120/123 credit programme designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to become effective teachers of English as a second Language in Asian countries.
Objectives of the Programme
On successful completion of the programme, graduates will:
- understand the development and different ways children learn English as a second language and take into account their individual needs and abilities;
- demonstrate an understanding of the diversity of Asian society, particularly in relation to socio-economic class, culture, language, gender and disability, and the influence of these on the learning of English;
- exhibit good interpersonal and communication skills including both written and verbal abilities relevant to the teaching of English as a second language;
- demonstrate and in-depth knowledge and skills in the the design, implementation and evaluation of curricula, learning programmess and classroom practices in teaching English as a second language; and
- appreciate that teaching English as a second language is an art, science, craft and profession.
